Very little has been said by way of specifics regarding the sequel. We know that Keaton is returning in the title role, with Danny Elfman also returning to compose the soundtrack. Other returning cast members include Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz as well as Catherine O’Hara as her mother, Delia Deetz. Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) is set to lead the sequel as Lydia’s daughter. Other new cast members include Monica Bellucci (“The Matrix Reloaded”), Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), and Willem Dafoe (“Poor Things”).
Warner Bros. has been trying to make this sequel a reality for a very, very long time. Famously, the studio was trying to make “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian” in the ’90s, which Kevin Smtih was asked to possibly do a draft of at one point. That version never came to be and every other incarnation fell apart somewhere along the line. At long last, Burton and Keaton’s schedules aligned, the stars aligned, and everything fell into place. We’ll know soon enough whether it was worth the wait or not.
